Inspiro Fest Feature: R.C. Cat

Inspiro Fest 2016 is quickly approaching—our fourth annual festival will feature musical performances, films, vendors, a dance competition and more –B*TRU ARTS has been speaking with some of our performers who will be joining us on June 4th, the day of the festival.

R.C. Cat, a group made up of Connor McCampbell, Julio Correa, Aaron Chavez and Mitchell “Mitch” Webb, spoke to us about their music, the group’s future, and shared some fun facts about themselves.

B: Where are each of you from?

R.C. Cat: Julio is from Corpus Christi, Mitch is from Flowermound, Aaron is from Plainview, and Connor is from Houston.

B: What are some interesting facts about you?

R.C. Cat: Mitch has a small but blossoming mannequin collection.

Aaron played the astronaut character in Linklater’s new film “Everybody Wants Some!!”

Julio is a computer scientist.

Connor builds all his own furniture.

B: How would you describe your music in one sentence?

R.C. Cat: Our music is satiric meta-pop, appropriately genrefied as “joke pop;” it features a blend of choral harmonies, fat bass lines, and guitar chops styled after the very funky Mr. Rogers.

B: What kind of effect do you want to have on your audience?

R.C. Cat: We want audiences to hear our music and think, “Wow, what an interesting organization of pitches and rhythms.” We hope to inspire audiences to take a critical look at our music, evaluate our musical mechanics through the lens of interpersonal configurations, and dance lots.

B: What would you like to see for the band in the future?

R.C. Cat: Looking towards the future, we would love to play at some larger venues such as Wrigley field or the Parthenon. We are also looking to improve the ratio of band members with girlfriends from 50% to 100%.

B: Where can we hear your music?

R.C. Cat: You can hear our music if you follow these simple instructions:

1. Open Spotify

2. Type “R.C. CAT” into the search bar

3. Click “Play” on the first track (make sure your volume is turned up!)

4. Invite all of your friends over so they can also hear R.C. CAT

5. Call your mother, she loves it when you call. Ask her about the funny thing the cat did this morning. Hold the phone up to your speakers so Mom can hear R.C. CAT also. Make sure to say “I love you” before you hang up.

See R.C. Cat’s performance and join B*TRU ARTS for the 4th Annual Inspiro Fest, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 4 at Spiderhouse Ballroom, 2908 Fruth St, Austin, TX 78705.
