Co-operative Experimental Laboratory
This class is designed to fit the needs and goals of the participating actors. A “co-operative experimental laboratory” and a time for us to play, explore, discover, grow, collaborate and create.
Work on what you need/want. Acting for film, stage, commercials, monologues; interview and audition techniques; in depth scene study and character work. A chance to workshop original material, musical performances, or prepare for a specific role or creative project.
Acting requires discipline, focus and skill, the class will include Relaxation specifically for actors, and ensemble improvisational exercises designed to raise all of your work to a higher level. Many techniques, methods and games will be used during training: Uta Hagen, Anne Bogart “Viewpoints”, Suzuki, Meisner, Viola Spolin, and Joseph Chaikin’s “The Open Theater.”
VIEWPOINTS is a technique used to increase your awareness and focus during performance, becoming a servant to the work rather than a slave to our obligations. It will allow us to open up, become vulnerable, and learn more about yourself to increase your range as a performer. Actors will use movement, meditation, and elements of dance to become alert and present.
Viewpoints relieves the pressure to have to invent by yourself, to generate all alone, to be interesting and force creativity. Viewpoints allows us to surrender, fall back into empty creative space and trust that there is something these other than our own ego or imagination, to catch us. Viewpoints helps us trust in letting something occur onstage, rather than making it occur.
